As a matchmaker, prospective clients often ask me, “what’s the best season to start dating?” While an argument can be made for dating in any season of the year, I’ve always felt that there was something electric about starting to date in the summer. Maybe it’s the flirty sundresses or outdoor dining, but going out in the summer has just always seemed more fun. Like it’s bursting with possibility. So, naturally, I did some research to see if science backed my conclusions and I was surprised by what I found.
Once I started to do research on the best time to date, I found that summertime is the least likely time for people to break up—according to a study which measured changes in Facebook statuses for a year, breakups are most likely to occur after Valentine’s Day or right before Christmas and earlier in the summer (not during or even later). Hence, one could take that to mean that summer is the ideal time to go out and find someone aka START DATING!
In addition, there are just more people out and about during the summer months. And, as I mentioned, the outfits are way cuter. There are even more opportunities to attend outdoor events. Maybe it’s the clothes, but everything just feels more casual in the summer. Don’t even get me started on date ideas – they are virtually endless!
So, if you’re thinking about getting “out there” and joining a dating service or even just trying it on your own, now is the perfect time. Viva la Summer!
